You’ve probably heard this phrase before “you know my glory, but you don’t know my story”, but it never means as much as when you experience it for yourself. To say that God has completely turned my life around is an understatement. God has brought me so far and I’d like to share my story with you.
I didn’t grow up on the streets or learned about Christ as an adult; I was raised in church and learned about God and His love at a young age. I had a loving family and a comfortable life—I never would have expected my life to take the twists and turns it took.
I was physically and sexually abused; I was so embarrassed and shameful of where my life had taken me, I tried to hide it the best I could. My guilt caused me to make even more bad choices that just dug me deeper into this ditch I was in. I felt like I was so covered in sin that I could never be cleaned again!
It caused me to stay away from God by any means necessary. I thought that there was no way that God could forgive me and accept me as broken as I was. I was running so far in the other direction, that I couldn’t even see Him any longer. The devil had deceived me; I believed his lies and let him discourage me. But one day, my life changed. I didn’t want to be that person anymore. I was fed up and tried of running away from God. I stopped running away, and instead I came running back to my Father and I haven’t even thought about turning back!
God has restored me and my faith. When I am weak, He is strong. When I am hurt, He is my Healer. When I am anxious, He is my calm. What a blessing it is to be washed clean from my past mistakes and sin, and thank God I don’t look like what I’ve been through! When I was doubting God, I had to remind myself of what Psalms 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
God has a blessing for you, but sometimes you just have to BE STILL to receive it!
